Zanzibar & the coast

Adding Zanzibar to Your Safari

Three to five nights on the Indian Ocean coast make a perfect end to a safari. Here is how to choose where to stay.

Why add a beach stay?

After early mornings and long drives, time by the sea is a welcome change. Zanzibar combines relaxation with culture, with Stone Town, spice farms and coral reefs to explore.

Choosing a coast

The north coast has calmer swimming at most tides and lively beaches, while the east coast is quieter but affected by large tides. The south offers a more secluded feel. We will recommend a location based on your dates and what you want.

When to go

June to October and December to February are the driest. The long rains in March to May can bring heavy showers, and some lodges close.

How many nights?

Three nights is enough to unwind, and five lets you add excursions without rushing.

Getting there

There are direct flights to Zanzibar from Arusha and Kilimanjaro airports, and from Dar es Salaam by air or ferry. We can arrange all transfers.
