Overview
This seven-day itinerary is our most popular route for first-time visitors. It combines three of Tanzania's great parks in a comfortable sequence, starting with Tarangire's elephants and baobabs, moving to the Serengeti for extended game drives, and finishing with a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater.
Your driver-guide will adapt the pace to your interests. If you love photography, we will spend longer at sightings; if you want to focus on big cats, we will plan drives around the best times of day.
We can lengthen the itinerary by a night in the Serengeti, add a sunrise balloon flight or extend with a beach stay in Zanzibar.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day1 Arrive in Arusha
Meet your guide at Kilimanjaro International Airport or in Arusha and transfer to your hotel. Relax, meet your guide for a short safari briefing and enjoy an early night.

Day2 Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Drive to Tarangire (about three hours) and spend the afternoon on a game drive among baobabs and elephants along the Tarangire River.

Day3 Tarangire to the Serengeti
An early start for the journey to the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro highlands and Olduvai Gorge. Game viewing begins as you enter the park.

Day4 Full day in the Serengeti
Spend the day on game drives in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs and the herds, with a picnic lunch in the bush. Your guide chooses areas based on recent sightings.

Day5 Serengeti game drives
A morning drive, time for rest at camp and an afternoon drive in the best light. An optional sunrise balloon flight can be arranged for this morning.

Day6 Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Drive out of the Serengeti towards the Ngorongoro highlands, stopping for wildlife on the way. Arrive at the crater rim in the afternoon and enjoy the views.

Day7 Ngorongoro Crater and return to Arusha
Descend into the crater early for a morning game drive, followed by a picnic lunch by a hippo pool. Climb out and drive back to Arusha for your onward travel.

Accommodation style: Mid-range. Properties are confirmed in your written quote and may be substituted with similar standard if availability requires.
Arusha hotel
A comfortable hotel near the town centre with a garden and restaurant.
Tarangire lodge or tented camp
Mid-range lodge or camp with views over the park.
Central Serengeti tented camp
A permanent tented camp in the central Serengeti, close to the game-rich Seronera area.
Ngorongoro rim lodge
A lodge on the crater rim with sunrise views into the caldera.

Important information
- Visas: most visitors need a visa for Tanzania. Check current requirements for your nationality well before you travel.
- Health: speak to your doctor or travel clinic about vaccinations and malaria prevention. A yellow fever certificate may be required depending on where you travel from.
- Insurance: travel and medical insurance is strongly recommended and may be required by lodges.
- Luggage: soft-sided bags are best for vehicles and light aircraft, where weight limits often apply.
- Wildlife: sightings cannot be guaranteed and itineraries can change with weather, road and park conditions.
